Future Prospects for Youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina EU Membership

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country whose entire national success depends on its youth. They can be considered as leaders of tomorrow and the only ones who can change something into positive. They fight for identity in society, equality, education, as well as against unemployment, powerty and other problems which the world faces today. The role of the youth is the most important in today’s time. People of Bosnia and Herzegovina need them to resolve most of their problems. The youth has the ability to bring changes in their country. Bosnia and Herzegovina has a chance to become one of the members of the European Union. Youth seems to have an ability to face any challenges and problems.

The motto of the European Union, adopted 2 000, says : ”United in Diversity.” This motto means that Europeans are united in working together for peace and prosperty, and that its many different cultures, traditions and languages are a possitive asset for the continent. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country of big diversity. It has three constitutivee nations and a major number of national minorities. Past events have had an impact on present situation in this country. Young people know this is a multinational and multicultural country, so they are trying to live in unity at the same respecting diversity. But people need all to come together so they can live united. As a member of the European Union Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a chance to feel united. Youth will learn how to enlarge their idea of a united country. They know difference is one of the essence of humanity and it should never be the source of hatred or conflict. The answer to difference is to respect it. Respect for diversity means peace in this country. People may have different religions, different languages, different skin colour, but all of them belong to one human race. Youth is a strong force in social movements and they are problem solvers. All of us are one and we should not allow these little differences to push us away from each other. All of us should follow the sentence Michael Novak said 1983 : ”Unity in diversity is the highest possible attainment of a civilization, a testimony to the most noble possibilities of the human race. This attainment is made possible through passionate concern for choice in an atmosphere of social trust.”

Youth is the future of this country. Young people are filled with tremendous and towering ambitions. It will be a great wastage of human resources if opportunities are not given to them

in order to exercise their talents. Bosnia and Herzegovina needs that youth in order to become a brighter ground for success. The primary role of young people is to get a good and proper education in order to become better citizens of tomorrow. Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina is not so bad but it is not at the level it shoud be. We still have people who are not in position to go to school because they do not have money. Young people hope that education will be on a higher level as the European Union member. It is a responsibility of our Government to provide youth proper facilities in order to get ‘equipped’ with the knowledge of the modern era. One of the benefits of the European Union membership is studying abroad. Over two million young people in Europe have completed a part of their study programmes in another member state with the help of the Erasmus programme or scholarships. The possibility to study abroad is considered to be positive among the youth. All of them hope for a world full of opportunities so they could become better individuals. They just need to be given a chance to prove themselves. Young people are leaders and they do not make people into followers, but into other leaders. They know education is a power which helps us think clearly, the power to act well in world, and the power to appreciate life.

Youth is the spring of life. It is the age of discovery and dreams. Youth has the power to transform any nation into a better society. Young people also have the ability to lead their fellow citizens into the right direction. Youth are fighters but in Bosnia and Herzegovina they are faced with big problems such is unemployment. A lot of citizens are unemployed so they cannot satisfy their needs. The wise youth that Bosnia and Herzegovina has out there should be taken into consideration. Some of them, though educated, are unemployed. To increase production and sales employers often seek workers that are more experienced. This limits the youth to a small number of jobs. Due to their inexperience and lack of knowledge, employers do not want to spend money and time training them. They should be given an opportunity to expose their intelligence to the world and make themselves into someone. One of the benefits of the European Union is using the EU funds. Youth will have a chance to get a job easier or even develop their own business. Some organisations and other firms should assist young people so they can make our country a great and educated one. Also one of the benefits is going to work abroad. It does not mean to leave Bosnia and Herzegovina. They can go working for some time in order to get experience. After they come back they can enlarge all they have learned. This will increase the efficiency of the youth, keep them in school, reduce the total unemployment rate and make them more employable for their future.
